A conversation about god
Person A: "Do you believe in God?"
Person B: "No."
Person A: "Why not?"
Person B: "Because why would I believe in a floating man in the sky?"
Person A: "Well, that's just the Christian representation of God. I'm more so talking about an all-powerful, all-knowing being that created the universe."
Person B: "Why would I believe in that either? The Big Bang makes more sense."
Person A: "So you believe that everything came from nothing?"
Person B: "Well... yeah."
Person A: "Let's say, for example, you're in an empty room with nothing but a box of dominos. It's only natural that over time you'd get curious about what you can do with these dominos. Time passes... Eventually, you set up these dominos and PUSH; the first domino topples the second, and the second topples the third, and so on."
Person B: "So you're saying that God was bored, so He made the universe?"
Person A: "In a sense... The allegory can only go so far."
Person B: "So why do bad things happen to good or undeserving people?"
Person A: "This is unfortunate, yes. However, a being of this nature would be beyond our abilities to conceive. Let's say, for the sake of the argument, that God has had a plan since the dawn of time to bring heaven on Earth and establish the kingdom of God physically. Let's also say that God has put systems in place to let humans elevate themselves and work up the ranks, potentially to be at His side. A human soul, to achieve this, would have to learn many lessons, and it might take many lifetimes to achieve this."
Person B: "Yeah..."
Person A: "Someone's final lesson may be learning to let go of all earthly desires, not to fear death, and to have faith that they will be taken care of. Their earthly form, to teach said lessons, may be a young person with an incurable disease."
Person B: "That's bloody terrible."
Person A: "That's true, but if their final lesson is that corporeal suffering is only temporary, then when they learn this lesson, their reincarnation cycle of death and rebirth would cease, and they would finally have peace and understanding."
Person B: "That's all well and good, but why wouldn't God make heaven on Earth in the first place? Or even make this cycle of death and rebirth easier for humans?"
Person A: "Because God wants humans to have free will, and let's face it, a lot of humans would take heaven on Earth for granted and not abide by the laws given to them."
Person B: "Why wouldn't God just get rid of the bad stuff? Ahh, I get it, free will."
Person A: "Yeah, spot on. God has to test worthy souls because not everyone would want to live in a kingdom like this, and they would still rape, steal, and kill, as people do now."
Person B: "How does God judge someone to be worthy?"
Person A: "Well, God only judges people by what they know. Let's say, if you lived in a tribe with no conception of God whatsoever, as long as you still treated your fellow man fairly, you'd be fine."
Person B: "What about hell?"
Person A: "Hell is a tough one. There are two possible answers: A) Hell was just made up by the churches to make people more God-fearing, or B) Hell isn't actually sulfur and brimstone but a learning experience that would be based upon the suffering you put others through."
Person B: "So if I was a murderer, he'd make me feel the fear and pain of my victims?"
Person A: "Yeah, spot on again."
Person B: "So how do I, as a man, help in bringing about heaven on Earth and move through the ranks in the afterlife?"
Person A: "Well, start off by knowing yourself and then orient yourself to the highest good you know."
I still struggle with my faith in “god” daily. I’m not trying to change your opinion, just to broaden your perspective :)
