Confronting and transforming trauma

The wound is the place where the light enters you." - Rumi

Trauma is a black, pulsating mass that can reside within our bodies, obstructing our path to health and happiness. It comes from many forms such as hurt, societal conditioning, or the natural chaos of life. To truly heal, we must confront it. We must look deeply into ourselves to identify exactly where this trauma resides and the effect it has on our day to day lives.

It may be a lack of self worth from a traumatic instance which turns into addiction, lingering in the lungs, mouth and mind and worsening the body with every drag. It could take the shape of oversexualization, where guilt festers from viewing others through a lens of lust rather than respect. Or, it may hide in less obtrusive unhealthy habits, like overeating or consuming toxic foods, which burden the body and mind. Regardless of its form, this dark energy must be acknowledged and addressed if we are to live a fulfilling life.

Trauma is much like a Lovecraftian horror—an entity made of eyes, blood, and tar. We can feel its presence in ourselves and in others. It radiates a certain frequency which those who are in tune with the energies around them will feel as dense, rigid and toxic.

Some people, knowingly or unknowingly, exacerbate this pain, feeding off it, adding to the chaos. Others choose to avoid it altogether, stepping around it, leaving it unresolved and in the hands of the owner. There are those rare few who see this trauma for what it is. They help those burdened by it confront it, guiding them toward healing by loosening the mass into something less threatening and volatile and creating a safe environment where this substance can be understood and if turned into something positive.

“Energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be changed from one form to another” ~ Albert Einstein

Trauma cannot simply be destroyed yet like any energy it can be transformed. Through awareness, compassion, understanding and intentional change, we can transmute this darkness into something lighter, something that nourishes rather than depletes.

Healing is not a battle of elimination but a process of transforming wounds into wisdom, and pain into power.
